BioThe for-itself, the continuous nihilation of the in-itself, is the consciousness of a person. Since the in-itself is a plentitutde that escapes any conception of it, nihilation is a prerequisite for thought. The for-itself is a project, a desired end determining the meaning of reality in terms of this end. Consequently, it is what it is in an imagined future, and is constantly creating itself. It is an evolving present, perpetually separated from its past and future. It is a non-being. It exists only because it nihilates being; but it nihilates being in order to possess it. As a lack of being it is a desire for being.
